After 20 years as a registered interior designer specializing in the commercial flooring market, Peggy Arnold decided it was time to launch a new flooring business in Jul. 2009. She sought out longtime acquaintance and San Antonio businessman, Alan Petlin of Alan Petlin Gourmet Floors and the two decided to partner in a new venture, FootPrint Commercial Flooring.
Fast-forward a year and a half, Petlin states they share office space, admin, warehouse and staff."It allows us to be as competitive as anybody in this industry, if not more so," he said.
Working side by side, the two businesses cover the marketplace. FootPrint focuses on the commercial market and Gourmet Floors covers the residential market.
Arnold and Petlin agree their partnership allows them to offer a greater variety of merchandise for their clients.
Petlin commented,"If it goes on the floor, we do it."
Arnold stated they offer traditional flooring, but they specialize in sustainable and renewable products.
Today's consumer is really looking to make educated selections on sustainable products. The need for FootPrint Flooring came from the evolution of the built environment and the growing sophistication of the commercial flooring market.
"We look for products that are not only renewable and long lasting, but are manufactured and installed without taking away from the environment. And a big part of that is, particularly in San Antonio, that desire to blend historical buildings with new functional, energy efficient buildings, like what is happening at the Pearl Brewery," she said.
